Phase 1 Level II Laboratory, Bedford Institute of Oceanography, Bedford, NS

Building during the winter months can present challenges for the construction of a concrete structure. When the Bedford Institute of Oceanography chose the team at Avondale to construct a new 6 level plus, 76,800 square foot building, this is just one of the details that had to be expertly managed. The bottom two floors of the new building were below grade, requiring extensive excavation through solid rock, while carefully negotiating around an adjacent fully occupied building.

All aspects of the construction process were planned and executed to maintain existing services to the adjacent building and to avoid any disruptions to business as usual. The build was demanding, but our expertise combined with a solid working relationship with the client ensured that there were no surprises and that the structure was ready as promised, when promised.
