Avondale Halifax head office is in search of an efficient and self-directed Accounts Payable specialist to join our fast-growing team. The ability to multitask and process a large volume of supplier invoices accurately is essential in this position while light administrative tasks are required. The ideal candidate is competent and well organized with excellent communication skills.

Reporting to the General Accountant, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing Accounts Payable (NS) and some light office duties. This is a fantastic entry-level opportunity for an accounting professional who thrives in a busy workplace and works closely with the Operations Team of the Company.

Core Responsibilities and Duties

  • Process a large volume of supplier invoices per internal procedures
  • Match invoices with purchase orders and receiving documents
  • Follow up and solve invoice issues with Operations team in a time-sensitive manner
  • Deal with supplier inquires timely in a professional manner
  • Reconcile supplier accounts in the system with supplier statements
  • Follow up on outstanding or missing invoices and investigate supplier account discrepancy
  • Reconcile the Accounts Payable subledger to the General Ledger and ensure that all invoices and payments are accounted for, credits issued when applicable
  • Communicate any unsolved issues and working progress with General Accountant daily/weekly
  • Perform other accounting duties as needed
  • Handle incoming calls for the Company’s business lines
  • Assist in other light administrative tasks (such as mailing and receiving) as required

Qualifications and skills

  • College diploma in accounting, finance, business, or related discipline
  • Equivalent work experience will be considered as well
  • Minimum one year’s accounting experience in a junior accounting role
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.)
  • Experience in using common accounting software
  • Knowledge of Jonas Construction Software is considered as an asset for application (but not a must)
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
  • Well organized and ability to prioritize tasks based on deadlines
  • Capable of managing all financial and other records with accuracy and confidentiality
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Self-motivated and self-directed with minimum supervision
  • Ability to work closely with other team members

Job Type: Full-time and Permanent

Compensation: Salary based on experience and skills, plus benefits

Benefits:
